01 · Challenge

Most people avoid stablecoins because crypto feels complicated. Grateful, the payments app from Exodus, had to feel as simple as a banking app without ever using crypto language.

02 · Approach

We carried one idea, 'value in every movement', through the positioning, a magenta brand, a one-tap payments app, merchant tools and on-the-ground activation.

03 · Outcome

A pilot that proved a mainstream audience could adopt stablecoin payments and became the proof behind Exodus Pay. Exodus reports 25,000+ transactions on launch day.

01The challenge

After acquiring the platform, Exodus asked for one thing: make paying feel as good as receiving.

Make stablecoins approachable, trustworthy and human

Grateful is an app by Exodus that makes paying with stablecoins simple, intuitive and meaningful. The challenge was translating blockchain into something that feels as natural as opening a banking app, in a market with strong incumbents and a lot of scepticism about crypto.

Most people don't use stablecoins because crypto feels complicated. So the language had to change first. Grateful never says 'crypto', and never asks a shopper or a merchant to know they are using it.

02Strategy

What crypto payments usually say

  • Wallets, chains and tokens
  • Jargon that assumes you already know
  • Speculation first, payment second

What Grateful says instead

  • Pay with stables, the way you tap a card
  • Plain words for consumers and merchants
  • Gratitude and connection first
Brand idea

Value in every movement.

Every payment is a movement of value from one person to another. Grateful treats it as a moment of connection, not a transaction, and lets that feeling shape the name, the voice and the product.

Positioning

Grateful invites a shift in perspective: to pay with gratitude, recognising the value of what we receive and the connection to our own journey.

03Identity

One electric magenta, soft forms and real people

The identity pairs a single electric magenta with soft, flowing forms and photography of people mid-moment. It reads warm instead of technical, which is the point: nothing in it suggests a wallet, a chain or a chart. Lines such as 'Pay with stables' and 'A path to freedom' keep the tone plain and human.

04Product

One tap, for consumers and for merchants

The consumer app is clean, fast and built around one-tap stablecoin checkout and sending to friends. For merchants, point-of-sale tools, live settlement tracking and instant invoicing give the same simplicity at the till. Both sides see the same calm interface, so neither has to learn anything new to use it.

05Activation

From the screen to the street

Brand activation took Grateful off the phone: in-store point-of-sale materials, NFC stands, merchant displays and event collateral.

06Results

The pilot that led to Exodus Pay

Grateful was Exodus's pilot to test whether a mainstream audience would adopt stablecoin payments given the right experience. It worked, and it led directly to the full Exodus Pay platform.
